Discover the true Muri Hotel Jalingo experience — comfort, service, food, prices, reviews, and how IbiFoundry can help them go digital.

If you’ve ever passed through the heart of Jalingo, you’ve likely seen the bold cream-and-brown building that quietly stands along Hammaruwa Way — Muri Hotel.

For years, it’s been one of the most recognizable names in Taraba’s hospitality scene.

This review is part of my ongoing Hotels in Taraba State Review Series, where I (Simon Taki Zaku, Founder of IbiFoundry) personally explore, lodge, and document the best and sometimes not-so-great hotels across Taraba State — one town at a time.

I first stayed at Muri Hotel during an IbiFoundry field trip in early 2024.

It was one of those weeks where Jalingo was humming with political activity and business meetings, and good accommodation was scarce.

Yet, somehow, Muri Hotel stood out — not because it’s the newest or flashiest, but because it has that old Taraba charm mixed with quiet reliability.

Where is Muri Hotel Located in Jalingo?

Muri Hotel is located along 16 Hammaruwa Way, Jalingo, right at the center of the city’s busiest government and commercial district.

Its location alone makes it a convenient choice for anyone attending conferences, government meetings, or NGO trainings in the capital.

It’s roughly 10 minutes’ drive from the Taraba State Government House, 5 minutes from Jalingo main market, and about 15 minutes from the airport — which already gives it a prime logistical advantage.

First Impressions (Check-in & Ambience)

Walking into Muri Hotel gives you that “Nigeria early 2000s” nostalgia — polished tiles, steady air conditioning, and staff that greet you with a subtle smile.

The check-in desk is efficient enough; they don’t waste your time.

During my stay, I arrived around 3 p.m. and was checked in within ten minutes.

The receptionist — a polite young woman in a green uniform — handled everything professionally.

The lobby décor leans simple: framed local art, wooden furniture, soft ambient lighting.

It’s not boutique-level fancy, but it’s clean and surprisingly cozy.

Comfort & Cleanliness

Comfort-wise, Muri Hotel does fairly well for its category.

The rooms are spacious, with functioning AC, good ventilation, and basic furnishing — bed, TV, table, and wardrobe.

Bedsheets were clean, not overused, and the bathroom had consistent running water (which in some Jalingo hotels is a miracle).

Housekeeping came daily, though sometimes late afternoons.

Public reviews echo the same: people often mention the neatness and peaceful environment.

“Clean and quiet place to rest in Jalingo,” one reviewer on Google wrote in 2023.

Another added: “Not luxurious, but you’ll sleep well.”

Service Experience

Service is where Muri Hotel shines better than expected.

Staff appear well-trained in basic hospitality — polite, responsive, and approachable.

Room service, however, can be slow during busy weekends.

Once I ordered a late dinner around 8:30 p.m., and it came close to 9 p.m., but the food was hot and well-prepared.

There’s a calm professionalism about the way they attend to guests — they don’t hover or over-ask questions, but they check up occasionally to see if you’re fine.

Food, Drinks & Room Service

Muri Hotel’s restaurant has a modest but well-curated menu: jollof rice, pounded yam with egusi, white rice and stew, grilled fish, and continental breakfast options.

The jollof was smoky and rich — the kind you know was made on firewood.

Breakfast portions were generous, and they offer fresh juice (though mostly seasonal).

Drinks are served from the in-house bar, with both alcoholic and soft drink options.

Prices are fair; you can get a good meal for ₦2,500–₦3,500.

Public rating on food: 4.1/5 (based on Google reviews).

Price & Value for Money

Room prices at Muri Hotel range between ₦10,000 – ₦20,000, depending on the room type.

For that price range in Jalingo, it’s actually good value.

You’re paying for central location, good security, clean rooms, and stable power supply.

Compared to newer hotels like Fast Track or Star Exclusive, Muri may not have fancy modern décor — but it makes up for it with reliability.

Amenities & Facilities

  • 24-hour electricity (with generator backup)

  • In-house restaurant and bar

  • Event hall (for small conferences and weddings)

  • Ample parking space with security

  • Room service and daily cleaning

  • Air-conditioning and hot water

Missing features include a swimming pool or gym — which many guests have pointed out online.

What Other Guests Are Saying (Public Reviews)

From Google, TripAdvisor, and RentechDigital, the hotel averages 3.6 stars out of 5.

Highlights from user feedback:

“The staff are polite, and the environment is peaceful.” — Emmanuel U., 2024

“Could use renovation, but overall nice experience.” — Zainab M., 2023

“Good for conferences, decent pricing.” — Ibrahim G., 2024

Public perception matches my own — not luxurious, but dependable.

The Downsides (Minor Flaws)

Let’s be honest — Muri Hotel isn’t perfect.

Some furniture looks dated, Wi-Fi signal can be weak in rooms far from the lobby, and during peak events, service speed drops.

Parking is secure but gets crowded quickly when events are happening.

These aren’t dealbreakers, but they’re areas management could easily improve with modern upgrades and better logistics.

Overall Verdict (My Honest Take)

I’d rate Muri Hotel 8.2/10 overall.

For me, it’s the kind of place you book when you want peace, safety, and predictability — not glitz.

The management has kept it consistent over the years, and that’s commendable in a city where hotel quality can swing wildly.

If you’re visiting Jalingo for work, conferences, or NGO missions, Muri Hotel is a safe bet.
